Don 2 Movie Review
Don 2 Movie Review, Rating, Hindi Movie: Shahrukh Khan is back as Don. Farhan Akthar and SRK decided to take this franchise ahead after successfully remaking Amitabh’s action classic Don. If Don is more of a cat and mouse game, we get to see Don as a perfect thief in the second installment. Did Don 2 live up to the expectations? Let’s find out in the review…

Listen Review:

Story:

Don (Shahrukh Khan) deliberately gets caught and meets his old foe Vardhan (Boman Irani) in the prison. They both escapes from the jail and Don plan an international heist which would earn him billions of Euros. Roma (Priyanka Chopra) is after him and how would Don pull off the heist forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

If Don is known for its style, Farhan takes the second version two, three notches higher in style. The film is unbelievably stylish that you would fall in love with it despite the slow pace. However, the slow pace does bother you at times as this type of films needs to be racy and put the audience on the edge of the seat.

The plot is simple yet interesting. Don uses his wily tricks again and does fool the audience with the final twist in the tale. But what makes the film looks bland is it has less thrills and very little engaging sequences. There are shades of Ocean’s 11 and other Hollywood heist thrillers in Don 2, but the drama and buildup is missing.

Don 2 will only appeal to audience who like the style over everything. The film is up to international standards in all aspects but lacks the heart of an Indian film. It will do good at plexes and may not be liked by the masses.

Performances:

Shahrukh Khan steals the show. If not for him, this film would have been ended up as an outright dud. What a performer he is. He always does the best when he plays a baddie. Priyanka Chopra’s screen presence is pretty good. But her character is not etched well. Om Puri is more like a caricature. Boman Irani is unconvincing. Kunal Kapoor is alright.

Technicalities:

Dialogues are excellent. One liners written for Shahrukh will win the hearts. Cinematography is topnotch. Background score is fine but the songs are not composed well. Editing is sleek. Production values are on par with international standards.

Farhan Akthar proves that he is the best stylish filmmaker in India. Had he taken care on the script Don 2 might have worked wonders.

Final Word:

Don 2 can be watched for SRK and its stylish filmmaking. Slow pace will be the biggest problem for it to impress audience who look for fun. Even the thrills and action part is not very convincing.

Rajanna Review – Rajanna Movie Review, Rating, Telugu Movie: This film is touted to be the comeback film of director Vijayendra Prasad who made his debut as director with Arthangi in 1996. The film was made on the real life incidents in Telangana region during the Nizam rule. The movie is laced with sentiment, emotions and patriotism.Nagarjuna Akkineni produced the film on Annapurna Studios banner. Here is the review of Rajanna.

Listen Review:

Story:

The story of the film revolves around the central character Mallamma, an orphan girl who is being raised by an old man. The girl has a passion to sing and that has been strongly opposed by the Dorasani of the village as she feels that her songs have some intense emotion which can turn the entire village against her. But, poor girl couldn’t stop singing and as a result the dorasani kills the old man, locks the girl inside the house and set it ablaze. The girl escapes the mishap with the help of a music teacher and makes her way to Delhi to meet the then Prime Minister of India Jawahar Lal Nehru to complain against the atrocities of dorasani. The rest of the movie is all about how the girl meets the Prime Minister and fulfills the villagers and Rajanna’s wish.

Analysis:

The movie opens and concludes with a voiceover from Akkineni Nageswara Rao. The first hour of the film is narrated well with heavy sentiment scenes. The introduction of Nagarjuna is a bit late and will be exactly 10 minutes before the interval. The film offers lot of human emotions, patriotism and sentiment which are depicted in a convincing manner. The plot of the film is interesting and laudable. The director could have done better home work at the end.

The second half of the film slowly picks up post interval and leaves a good impression. The power packed dialogues and action episodes are a treat to watch on screen. We can see the mark of Rajamouli in action episodes and couple of songs. Gijigaadu and Veyyi Ra Veyyi songs are the best songs of the film. The screenplay of the film is predictable and lacks the wow factor. The Telangana accent of Nagarjuna is good. Keeravani needs a special mention for his wonderful background score and soundtrack. Overall, the film is watchable for decent performances from the lead star cast.

Performance:

The role played by Nagarjuna as Rajanna is suave and powerful. His histrionics will surely amuse his fans after long time. Pradeep Rawat, Ajay, Nassar, Supreeth and ‘Sye’ Chotu are good in their roles. Sneha is adequate as Lachuvamma. Baby Annie as Mallamma is the show stealer of the film. Her stellar performance is the backbone of the film. Keeravani brings the soul to the film with his wonderful background score and songs. Swetha Menon has delivered her best in a negative role. Mukesh Rishi has a limited role to play. Telangana Sakuntala is just ok.

Technicalities:

The cinematography by Shyam K Naidu is excellent. Graphics are tawdry. This is undoubtedly one of the best works of Keeravani in recent times. The art director has done a brilliant job in bringing out the nativity factor during Nizam era. Editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao is up to the mark. The director’s choice of script  is good but the execution part could have be better.

Final Word:

Watch the film for wonderful performances from Baby Annie, Nagarjuna and soulful music from Keeravani.

Panjaa Movie Review - panjaa Movie Review, Rating, Telugu Movie: Power Star Pawan Kalyan, who is due for a hit post Jalsa, came up with Panjaa. Like every Pawan film, this has been riding high on expectations. Fans are expecting nothing short of a blockbuster with Panjaa. But did Power star deliver the goods? Here isPanjaa Review in detail…

Listen Review:
Story:

Jai (Pawan Kalyan) is a loyal follower of Bhagavan (Jackie Shroff), who is a big don in Kolkata. Kulakarni (Atul Kulakarni) is the rival of Bhagavan. Jai has a friend named Jahnavi (Anjali Lavania) who is a club dancer. Bhagavan’s sadistic son Munna (Adivi Seshu) has an eye on her. Meanwhile Jai falls in love with Sandhya (Sarah Jane). Munna kills Jahnavi as she rejects him. Then Jai kills him in turn. Now Jai becomes the prime target for Bhagavan. What happens next is to be seen on the screen.

Analysis:

Panjaa is mainly an action drama laced with romance. Director Vishnu Vardhan didn’t try to focus on Pawan Kalyan’s star image. He scripted the story and character as per his will and he did what he believed in.

This may not go down well with the loyalists of Pawan Kalyan. There isn’t any special mark of Pawan Kalyan in the film. It is Vishnu Vardhan’s film with Pawan playing the lead role. So, obviously there isn’t any glorified heroism or build up. Class fans of Pawan Kalyan may like this new dimension, but mass fans might be terribly disappointed.

The story takes off on a slow note and drags until the character of Adivi Sesh turns wild. The buildup towards the interval is the best part in the film as per the screenplay is concerned. Second half starts on a completely different note. Lot of under developed clichéd characters enters the frame and it only gets interesting towards the end. In the middle there is Paparayudu song to pump in some energy.

On a whole, Panjaa is a technically well made film which didn’t have the legs to survive at the box office for a long period. A lot will depend on Pawan Kalyan’s crowd pulling capabilities to bail out this one from sinking at the box office.

Performances:

Pawan Kalyan underplayed his character to the perfection. He is believable as the loyal follower of a deadly don. His getup is Okay and his dances in Paparayudu song will be a treat to fans. Sarah Jane Dias lacks the looks, but carries off her character in an Okay manner. Anjali Lavania is hot looking but again lacks good looks. Sesh Adivi is a revelation. He delivered a mind blowing performance as a sadistic villain.

Jackie Shroff is alright and Atul Kulakarni is stiff. Brahmanandam excelled in Paparayudu song sequence. Ali is neat. Subba Raju is fine. Tanikella Bharani is good as a wicked man.

Technicalities:

Dialogues by Abburi Ravi are not up to the mark. There are very few lines which sound good and seems like some thought is put in. Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is good. Ela Ela song is superb. Songs are not utilized by the director. Placing title song after the end card is a blunder. Background score is very good. Cinematography is awesome and editing is very fine. Production values are laudable.

Director Vishnu Vardhan showed his brilliance in few scenes. He excelled in getting the action part right. There are many plot holes and loose ends in the film. As a script writer Vishnu showed some hurriedness and failed to make it a rounded script. Writer in him has let down the director.

Final Word:

Panjaa is a stylishly made action film which may not appeal to all the sections of audience. People who look for some novelty in dealing a star’s film without all those clichés may like it. The percentage of such audience will be always low and let’s see if Panjaa sets a new trend in bringing a sea change to our Tollywood style.

Journey Review – Journey Movie Review, Rating, Telugu Movie: This is the debut movie of director Saravanan M and kudos to him for making this film with lots of human emotions. The movie is a blend of entertainment, love and sentiment. The titleJourney is apt for the film as one will feel that they too are part of it. Suresh Kondeti should be appreciated for bringing out realistic films with entertainment to Telugu audience like this film. The movie is the dubbed version of Tamil film Engeyum Eppothum produced by AR Murugadoss. Here is the review of this Journey.
Listen Review:

Story:
The film is all about two young couples who are exactly opposite in their nature. They want to spend a happy life together with their loved ones upon their dreams. There happens a road mishap when two buses collide with each other at a highway near Suryapeta village.  That incident changes the course of lives of the young couples. The movie then slowly goes into the flashback episodes and the love story between the couples (Sharwanand and Ananya, Jai and Anjali) is showcased briefly.

Analysis
The narration is racy and the director keeps us connected throughout the movie with realistic approach. Every character in the movie has some importance. The film is laced with human emotions and the screenplay is gripping. The director should be appreciated for choosing a wonderful script. Overall, the movie is good and worth watching for its storyline and underlying message with human emotions. The star cast consisting of the likes of SharwanandAnanya, Jai and Anjali lives up to the expectations.

Krishnakanth (Jai) falls in love with a nurse Madhumati (Anjali). He is very timid in nature and a soft-spoken guy, while Madhumati is very practical and out-spoken. Amrutha (Ananya) from Vijayawada comes to Hyderabad for an interview and seeks the help of Gautam (Sharwanand) as she is new to the city. She slowly gets attracted to Gautam and starts loving him madly. Meanwhile, Krishnakanth along with Madhumati boards a bus to go to his hometown Munagala. Similarly, Gautam also takes a bus to Vijayawada to see and express his love to Amrutha. On the other side, Amrutha too boards a bus at the same time to Hyderabad to meet Gautam. The buses which they are travelling collide with each other and what happens next is the film is all about.

Performance:
The role of Sharwanand as Gautam is apt. He looks uber cool and stylish as a software engineer.Ananya should be appreciated for her performance as an innocent girl. Anjali as a clever, out-spoken and practical girl is very impressive. She is very lucky enough to get good roles at the early stages of her career. She has shown maturity in whichever role she has played so far. This is undoubtedly a wonderful performance from Jai who acted as an innocent young man who falls in love with Anjali. The new faces in the film add freshness to the script.

Technicalities:
The cinematography by Velraj is wonderful. Especially, the accident scenes were shot extremely well in realistic manner. The makers took care of the nativity factor and are quite successful in it. Debutant director Saravanan has handled the complexities very efficiently. Music by Sathya is equally impressive. The background score brings in freshness to the overall proceedings of the film. The editing by Kishore is good. The production values are neat.

Final Word:

Journey can be watched for wonderful performances from Jai, AnjaliSharwanand and Ananya. If are looking for a heart-touching and feel good love story don’t miss this film. The movie has very good chances to sustain at box-office.

The Dirty Picture Review – Dirty Picture Movie Review, Rating, Hindi Movie: Touted to be the real life story of late item girl Silk Smitha, The Dirty Picture was dubbed in Telugu and Tamil too. This film has created a lot of buzz for its content and especially for Vidya ‘The Bold’ Balan! Did the film live up to expectations? Check out…

Listen Review:

Story:
Reshma (Vidya Balan) runs away from her home and goes to Kollywood (Tamil cinema industry) hoping to become a big actress. After struggling for some time, she gets the break in films as an item girl and her name is changed to Silk. She is a diehard fan of superstar Suryakanth (Naseeruddeen Shah), who falls for her ‘services’ and gives her the desired break in film industry. Within no time Silk becomes a star and Suryakanth doesn’t like her growth. His true colors are shown later and then Silk gets close with Suryakanth’s brother Ramakanth (Tushar Kapoor), who is also a writer. Ramakanth plans to marry her but her over-abusive nature doesn’t work for him. Silk gets addicted to drinking and becomes highly arrogant. Finally she decides to produce a film on her own and lose all the money earned. With the rise of other item girls, Silk is left with no offers on hands and goes bankrupt. A director Abraham (Emraan Hashmi) who hates her to the core starts to like her and when he tries to set things right for Silk, she commits suicide.

Analysis:
The Dirty Picture offers you what was promised in the promotion campaign. It is Dirty in the first hour with Vidya Balan showing off everything she has got and also speaking filth all the time. There is ample entertainment in the first half and the interval point is very good.

After the interval, the film slides down a bit and start dragging as the film heads towards the climax. Suddenly the characters behave more dramatic and the entertainment goes for a toss. Climax portions are not convincing enough. The situations which lead to end Silk’s life aren’t strong.

Despite the hiccups, The Dirty Picture will work for the first half which is worth the ticket price. If you look for a complete film, you might end up in disappointment. But if you go to the theaters expecting a sizzling show from Vidya Balan, you will come out more than satisfied.

Performances:
Vidya Balan is the ‘hero’ of this film. She did a terrific job as Silk. It is a very difficult role which might give the cheap image for the actress forever. But Vidya pulled it off with ease. The rise and fall of the character are expressed wonderfully through her. She has put on oodles of weight for the role and that shows the commitment of the actress.

Emraan Hashmi is effective and made his presence felt. Naseeruddeen Shah is perfect. Tushar Kapoor is a letdown.

Technicalities:
Vishal Sekhar’s music is fine. Ooh lala oo lala is a chartbuster. Script provided by Rajat Arora is half baked. He should have explored and exposed more details about Silk Smitha’s life. The rise and fall of the actress are not properly written. There seems to be some hurriedness in that aspect. Bobby Singh’s cinematography is neat. Akiv Ali could have edited the dragging portions in the second half.

Director Milan Luthria did a fine job. He is not the script writer of the film and so we can’t blame him for the shortcomings. Direction in the climax portions is not up to the mark though.

Final Word:
The Dirty Picture can be watched for Vidya Balan’s performance as well as skin show. If you look for a good story and a heart touching film, it falls short of expectations. It will surely rock the box office and would be a smash hit given its budget.

Bezawada Review – Bejawada Movie Review, Rating, Telugu Movie: This film was known as ‘Bejawada Rowdeelu’ at the start, but later it was cut short to Bejawada due to severe agitation from Vijayawada politicians and activists. With so many controversies and buzz surrounding it due to the issue it is focused on, Bejawada opened to curious crowds today. Did it live up to the hype and hoopla? Let’s find out in the review…

Listen Review:

Story:
Bejawada is ruled by Khali (Prabhu), who runs a parallel government in the town. His younger brother Shankar (Abhimanyu Singh) is power thirsty and is jealous about Vijay Krisha (Mukul Dev), who is a close aide to Khali. Out of desperation to be the ruler, Shankar eliminates his brother and lock horns with Vijay Krishna.

Shankar successfully kills Vijay Krishna and the latter’s younger brother Shiva (Naga Chaitanya) avenges his brother’s death. How Shiva kills Shankar and wipes out his empire forms rest of the story.

Analysis:
Like it was publicized Bejawada is not a realistic look on the history nor does it bear any references to what ‘actually’ happened. Looks like the filmmakers tried to cash in on the ‘curious factor’ that is associated with Bejawada rowdy-ism. This is a routine revenge drama where two groups fight for the upper hand.

Obviously good wins over evil! So there needs to be a tight and arresting screenplay for such films to keep the audience interested. Unfortunately, Bejawada lacks the bite! It is a very dull film with poor screenplay. Everything goes as per the audience predictions. It also ends on a predictable note.

First half is mainly focused on the gang politics in which hero is left in the background. He comes to the front in the second hour, but a poor script lets the film down. One would expect a tense thriller out of this concept. But the director’s inability to highlight the emotions seems to be the biggest drawback of the film.

Second hour is sheer test of patience and it would be an almost impossible task to sit through it. It may appeal to people who look for excessive violence in a film.

Performances:Naga Chaitanya didn’t suit the role. He is good in portraying romantic characters. He needs some time to take up such high voltage films. His costumes and looks are good. He should focus on his diction as soon as possible. It is the main drawback for him as an actor at present.

Amala Paul has good looks but her role is half baked. Abhimanyu Singh is menacing as the bad boy. Prabhu and Mukul Dev are alright. Ajay, Kota Srinivasa Rao and others did their bit. Brahmanandam is wasted.

Technicalities:Music is composed by almost half a dozen people. The output is mediocre. None of the songs really made any impact and the background score is too loud. Cinematography is bad. The camera angles and the technique used will let us down. Editing is jerky and unconvincing. There are many jump cuts and irrelevant opening and closings of the scenes. Production values are of low standard. The film is made on a shoe string budget.

Director Vivek Krishna tried to ape Ram Gopal Varma in terms of storytelling and camera angles. His output is not up to the mark. He didn’t do justice to any of the emotions. Be it agony, romance or comedy. When the director doesn’t want to highlight any of the historical facts, then why did he opt for Vijayawada rowdy-ism backdrop is a million dollars question.

Final Word:Bejawada may appeal to mass audience that look for some action and violence. People who expect a sensible or a sensational film from RGV’s camp will be terribly disappointed.

Bejawada Movie Rating: 2/5
Banner: Shreya Productions
Cast: Naga Chaitanya, Amala Paul, Anjana Sukhani, Brahmanandam, Nassar
Producer: Ram Gopal Varma, Kiran Kumar Koneru
Direction: Vivek Krishna
